THESE ARE THE MOST COMMON PHYSICAL & PSYCHOLOGICAL SIDE EFFECTS :-
PHYSICAL SIDE EFFECTS
"Gastritis" (Irritation of the lining of the stomach)
"Sleep Disturbances" (difficulty getting off to sleep, plus waking up
early morning and being unable to get back to sleep again)
"Stomach Ulceration" (Ulceration of the stomach lining)
"Ulcerative Colitis" (Ulcers on the lining of the Colon"
"Gall Bladder Disease" (Gallstones and/or inflammation of the Common
Bile Duct)
"Severe Constipation" (may take the form of symptoms of Irritable
Bowel Disease)
"Liver Dysfunction" (may take the form of an over OR under-active
Liver Function)
We strongly advise that if you having being taking in excess of the
maximum daily recommended dose of any Codeine containing product, for more that 3 months duration, OR you have been taking under the daily recommended maximum dose, but for a period of 12 months or over, you ask a Doctor to give you a simple Liver Function Test (L.F.T) to check if your Liver is still working properly.
PSYCHOLOGICAL SIDE EFFECTS
"Severe Mood Swings" (that may alter from hour to hour, and are usually worse in the mornings)
"Clinical Dependency State" (the desire for the product, and to keep on taking it in order usually to feel 'normal' and not necessarily to obtain any 'high' or 'buzz'.
"Tolerance" (you have to take more of the product, as time passes, in order to achieve the same effects as that you did when you first took the product)
"Anxiety/Depression" (if you are prone to suffering anxiety and/or depression, may cause the conditions to worsen, and in a few cases, has shown to trigger the conditions off)
"Aggression" (especially in males- not necessarily presenting in direct violence, though this is often the case, but may be in the form of increased irritibility or frustration, directed at inanimate objects.
"Suicide Risk" (in some cases, there is a real risk of the sufferer showing pseudo-suicide attempts, which may result in fatalities if left untreated

Whilst most of these effects are related to current consumption of a codeine containing product, many of them can also be attributed to Withdrawal Symptoms, suffered whilst withdrawing from the product concerned.
