The Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Authority, (MHRA for short) has a scheme that allows anyone living within the United Kingdom to self-report any Adverse Reactions, or Side Effects, which has happened as a result of taking ANY Over-the-Counter OR Prescription-only, Drug or Medication.
These 'Side Effects' include use of an Over-the-Counter Product resulting in Addiction being caused to the end user.
If you, or someone you know, has been affected by an Addiction or Abuse to an Over-the-Counter Drug or Medication, such as addiction to a Codeine based painkiller, and you feel strongly about this, you can formally report and record this using the MHRA's simple Online Reporting Form, known as the "Yellow Card Reporting Scheme" Every "Yellow Card" Report is recorded by the MHRA, and if enough Adverse Reports are collated concerning a particular OTC Product, or a generic ingredient such as Codeine, the MHRA 'should' take positive action in order to minimise the problem. Several Products have actually been removed for OTC sale by the MHRA over the last few years, as a result of "Yellow Card" Reports, so it is worth it.
